Field Data Scanner

Motivf is seeking a meticulous and dedicated Field Data Scanner to assist in the digitization of approximately 300,000 records at three different locations in the Boston area. These records, some of which date back over 200 years, require careful handling and an understanding of historical document management. The ideal candidate will have experience in scanning and digitizing documents, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport and operate portable scanning equipment at three designated locations within the Boston area.

  • Carefully handle and digitize fragile historical documents, ensuring the integrity and preservation of original materials.

  • Organize and prepare documents for scanning, including removing staples, clips, and bindings where necessary.

  • Ensure high-quality digital copies by adjusting scanner settings, calibrating equipment, and conducting regular quality checks.

  • Maintain accurate records of scanned documents, including metadata entry and proper file naming conventions.

  • Work closely with project managers and archival staff to meet project deadlines and address any challenges related to document condition or equipment functionality.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with scanning equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of documents with precision, ensuring no data is missed or duplicated.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience handling and digitizing fragile, historical documents.

  • Familiarity with portable scanning equipment and software, with the ability to troubleshoot common technical issues.

  • Ability to lift and move scanning equipment and boxes of documents, as well as to work on your feet for extended periods.

  • Strong ability to organize, categorize, and manage documents systematically.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and report progress.

  • Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in libraries, archives, or historical societies.

  • Knowledge of metadata standards and digital preservation best practices.

  • Previous experience with large-scale digitization projects.
