GIS Developer Intern
Motivf is seeking a GIS Developer Intern to assist with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of geospatial applications and datasets. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual interested in geographic information systems (GIS), software development, and spatial analysis. The intern will work closely with our GIS and development teams to contribute to projects that impact real-world applications in transportation, urban planning, and public services.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development and maintenance of GIS-based applications and tools.
Work with spatial data formats such as GeoJSON, shapefiles, and raster datasets.
Support the integration of GIS data into web-based platforms and applications.
Conduct spatial analysis and visualization to support project requirements.
Develop scripts and automation tools using Python (e.g., ArcPy, GeoPandas) or JavaScript (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox).
Perform data cleaning, geoprocessing, and geocoding tasks.
Assist in documenting GIS workflows and best practices.
Collaborate with team members to develop innovative GIS solutions.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or other open-source GIS tools.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or SQL.
Understanding of web mapping technologies (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox, Esri Web Services).
Basic knowledge of spatial databases and geospatial data structures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud GIS platforms such as AWS, Google Earth Engine, or Esri ArcGIS Online.
Knowledge of REST APIs and geospatial web services.
Exposure to machine learning or AI applications in GIS.
Interest in UI/UX design for GIS applications.
