Cartographic Designer Intern
Motivf is seeking a Cartographic Designer Intern to assist in the creation of high-quality maps, data visualizations, and geospatial storytelling products. This is a great opportunity for a student or recent graduate with a passion for cartography, GIS, and visual design to gain hands-on experience working with real-world geospatial data and design tools.
Responsibilities
Design and develop aesthetically compelling and informative maps for reports, presentations, and interactive applications.
Apply cartographic principles to enhance data visualization and storytelling.
Work with GIS tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or web mapping platforms to create customized map designs.
Collaborate with GIS analysts and developers to translate complex spatial data into user-friendly visualizations.
Utilize graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma) to refine and enhance map layouts.
Research and apply best practices in cartographic design, symbology, and labeling.
Assist in creating map templates and style guides for consistent branding.
Organize and manage geospatial data for cartographic projects.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Cartography, GIS, Geography, Graphic Design, or a related field.
Strong understanding of cartographic principles, including symbology, scale, and color theory.
Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or equivalent.
Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Figma.
Basic knowledge of spatial data formats and geospatial concepts.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
Excellent attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with web mapping tools such as Mapbox, Leaflet, or ArcGIS Online.
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python for GIS automation.
Interest in data visualization techniques and interactive cartography.
Exposure to UI/UX principles for geospatial applications.
